[Link] | pax_draconis I can't come over on Friday to help with moving due to workman coming on saturday early who I forgot about. I'll see if I can sort something for later, but it's looking unlikely that I'll get a free weekend in the relevant period.

[Link] | The gentleman was talking to me, an inquisitive look in his eye. While what he was asking me was a simple request, I couldn’t understand a word he was saying. My brain started to fizz, desperately trying to interpret his babble as coherent words.
And suddenly all became clear, his effortless switch to English, the fluent and complete comprehension that he had of the panicked look in my face.
Bonn, Germany. A smallish town that inadvertently was made capital of West Germany during the bad old days. Something to do with the then chair of a committee being from there and it being the least offensive choice to the various regional people.
I remain utterly amazed at the cleanliness, respect for property and price of things. Politeness, courteousness, friendliness. I felt ignorant with my first phrase in German most of the time being ‘Sprecken zie English?’ Then when people apologise because their English is terrible, when they are easier to understand than many a native.
Training was dull, mostly irrelevant and lengthy. I am again firmly convinced that I never ever want to be a programmer having spent 2 days playing at it. How the hell do you lot do it? I mean programming, syntax, capitalization … argh.
Well I am now apparently TIBCO EMS trained, though I doubt I will use very much of it. I ate lovely food on Tuesday Malaysian Curried Tintefisch (Literally Inkyfish – how cool a name for squid is that) Discovered that Beer is cheap, spirits are expensive and that Germans get irritated when people think that the whole of the country is Bavaria (I asked for a stein of beer)
If I have to go back, I won’t be sad, neither will I be happy. Bonn is a T-Mobile Town, with Municipal vehicles, trams, planes, taxis and all sorts painted magenta (Is not Pink!) I don’t think I will ever go there by choice due to the sheer inability to get away from the ‘Brand’

Germany is wet, I should be drinking bier from Steins tonight, despite the insistance of our hosts that not all of Germany is Bavaria.

wknditis Weekend was good, verr good in fact. Spent in Manc, with the ever lovlier foul_temptress
Spent Friday after hellish travel chatting with arwel and icklejo who were unexpectedly chez Nev and Bit of a chat and to bed ... Saturday involved a trip into manchester, bought football boots and some Euros. God, the football boots, last time I bought a new pair of boots was about 8 years ago. They died on boxing day when I played for my brother's team in a friendly, so new team, new boots.
( Boots, more than the milan shoefair ) Following that, went to Claire's house (Nevs best friend) for a dvd/chinese birthday thingy. Ate nice bbq duck with ginger and pineapple, watched 2 movies. Kinky Boots and American Dreamz.
Both were enjoyable, I would recommend the former to anyone. The latter pushed the right buttons and made for a fun watch. Hugh Grant was very good, and not at all Hugh Grant in a hugh grant movie by Richard Curtis.
So, today I am off on my first ever business trip. I'd feel important, except I know enough people who make them regularly and hate it. It's a training course in Bonn, over 2 days, so I will have a single night to go out and see/do something. Anyone have any suggestions for a thing to do in Bonn for the evening?

[Link] | Little miss useless at work has been found out.
See, eventually people start tripping over the stuff that you sweep under the carpet.
I laugh on the inside, and would laugh out loud if it wasn't so pathetic listening to her trying to find someone else to blame.
For those not up to speed, she has been the single point of contact and sole support for TMUK sim card ordering. Part of my remit was to learn how to support that service so that we no longer have a single point of failure.
Today a problem happened, I made noise before she could hush it. She has been in a meeting with management today for 2 hours and has been subdued but blame pointing. Since that issue, 2 other issues have arose. She is trying to land them on me. I am saying 'But Chet, I wasn't working here in 'Insert Date', it must have been you.'
So apparently it is 'the system' which shouldn't give a system admin the option to delete faulty batches. It also shouldn't allow her to delete table data either. Our manager is holding his head in his hands while the rest of the team laughs behind their hands. I don't think she is long for this job, though I have started recording absolutely everything I do so that she can't blame me for her fuckups in 2-3 months time. I am quite looking forward to watching that particular explosion.

[Link] | Another weigh in this evening as i visit my much better half with assosciated bathroom scales. I am glad that I don't have my own scales else I'd stand on them and cry every morning.
I have stopped off my astonishing diet of eating little and gone back to eating a proper meal at least once a day with porridge for breakfast and a snack for the other meal. Toast, smoothies and the like are filling and not overly guilt inducing.
I discovered a blackberry bush in the back garden this week ... means I don't have to buy berries for smoothies for a few days at least :)
My exercise regieme has picked up again, however the exercise does consist of 3 games of 5-a-side football a week. The 11-a-side sunday league team i have signed for start friendlies this weekend, I hope I can get along to one before season starts in an attempt to claim my place, however being a lrper and having a girlfriend who lives 150 miles away will not make for be being a regular team member. At least the midweek training should keep me interested.

In other news, stuff has happened, I am still havig a good time in general, my shower got fixed at last and i met some RL warcrack people in London.
I'd update more regularly, but new work has me sitting next to the boss so what slacking time I could normally use, I have to actually spend being proactive.
Off to wipe on Patchwerk tonight for people who understand that sort of thing, 3 of 4 wings have the first boss down now :)

[Link] | Well Maelstrom, I ate little, drank an awful awful lot of water and polished some thing in the region of 60 pairs of shoes.
The customer base is building, certainly it will be easier to shame people into having their shoes polished if they are in colony groups rather than in Church groups as at this event.
My arm nearly fell off about an hour before timeout on Saturday night and was aching quite badly on Sunday so I did no 'work' on that day.
I thoroughly enjoyed the character, and that little shoestand gives you a virtual access all areas pass for most camps. People don't even acknowledge you a lot of the time. Highlights for me were the boots and spurs I polished while the guy was playing blackjack, and the amici family who ended up all having their boots/shoes done as they didn't want to feel left out :)
I heard a lot, saw a lot, and most of it is floating around in that part of my brain that does gossip. I think I used the phrase 'I'll keep my ear to the ground' more than once.
Next option I think is to start making a list of craftsmen as that was the question I got asked more than any other :)
Oh, to save the inevitable question, 7-9 marks in various currency, depending on exchange rates.
I will be back in 6 weeks. I have found my game.

Car woes Car cut out while sitting at 70 on the A1, pulled in, restarted, drove another 100 yards, cut out again. Called the AA (boy am I glad I joined them, not the RAC) who poked it, said some words that made no sense and towed me to a garage.
Went back to garage this morning to be told that they can't touch faults with fuel lines (which is apparently what the issue may be) and that it would need to go to Vauxhall
Drove in 20m stints halfway to Vauxhall then car died utterly, AA came again and towed me the rest of the way.
Vauxhall are looking into it and will let me know tomorrow. The upshot being that my cheap weekend lrping just got more expensive. Hire car for the weekend and all that Jazz.
Why does the God of cars hate me so.
To add on top of all that, Andy and Therese and Darryl from the group have all dropped out for the heat / other reasons which means I shall have to cook for myself -_-
ho hum, got emergency day off work, I'm off to lie in a cold bath for a bit.

New Shoes? No, these are 5 years old Bought a pair of smart and shiny shoes for Maelstrom, after all, there is no better advert IMO for a boot boy than if his own shoes are immaculate.
Looks like some of the group are wilting in the heat. We've had 1 drop out and 1 maybe dropping out in the last couple of days.
I must remember to pack my sunscreen and hat.

[Link] | Over the weekend I
Went to the river festival Got a bit tipsy Got a headache Ate a bedfordshire clanger Went home to get dressed as a pirate for river based drinking shenanigans Didn't go drinking due to falling asleep 3 times in 30 minutes sitting on the sofa when I first got in.
My shoeshine station has arrived. It is lovely and shiny and made just for me. Quite looking forward to Maelstrom, the buzz is almost at the level i had before the first game. Lets just hope that the fucktards don't irritate so much.
Boss is off work this week, so I may be sloping off early at points

Wknd Saw PotC - verr gud Spent time with luvely lady - verr better Bedford River Festival next weekend - am going Work - Woman who is meant to be training me keeps not training me, ho hum, I appear to be carving a niche as the one who fixes the old stuff. Maelstrom, lots of shoestuff bought, practice polish on own shoes went well, going to buy some emery boards and offer to polish beaks and claws too I have decided. Still unsure about whether to do armour, seems a bit too 'personal taste' for my liking. Football, looking for a sunday league side in Bedfordshire I can maybe join for preseason training. May the hunt continue. World Cup, shame for penalties, shame for Zidane, good for Italian football considering the current climate there. Warcrack, beginning to get bored of it :)
